Lucille E. Smith

Lucille ‘Cile’ E. Smith, 96, passed away July 2nd in Cheyenne. She was born in Chappell, Nebraska on March 29, 1917 to Monte & Mary Jane Snider. She graduated from Deuel County High School in 1934 and received her teaching certificate from the University of Nebraska. That same year she married Elton L. Smith in Sedgwick, Colorado. In 1936, they welcomed their first child Sandra, followed in 1938 by their son Larry and in 1939 their son Montie. The family moved to Cheyenne in 1941. Lucille was a homemaker for many years. As an avid card player, she participated in the Good Times Bridge Marathon, the St. Mary’s Bridge Marathon, and was a member of the Country Club Big Times Bridge Club. For many years she was a member of the Union Pacific Junior Oldtimers Lucille was known for the beautiful peonies she grew for friends and family to enjoy. Lucille is survived by her children Sandra Neeley Baucom, Lawrence “Larry” E. Smith (Janie), and Montie Smith (Paula), eight grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Elton L. Smith, her sisters Sarah Lasater, Betty Jo Hodges, and Edna Mae Dormann, son-in law Tom Neeley, son-in-law Clifton Baucom, grandson Tim Neeley, and nephew Noel Hodges. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. and Monday beginning at 8 a.m. Services will be occur Monday at 3:30 p.m. in the Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
