Marie F. Houston

Marie F. Huston, age 90 of Newport, OR and former Sidney, NE resident, passed away at her home on Monday, February 4, 2013.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 10th in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Cremation has been held. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be sent to the family in care of Arlene Christensen, 410 NE 70th Place, Newport, OR 97365 or to the charity of your choice.

Marie was born May 28, 1922 at Sunol, NE to Charles and Pearl (Kilgore) Dickinson, the last of six children. She attended school at Lodgepole, NE through the eighth grade. She married Ardean C. Vogt in 1939. Three children were born to this union, Arlene, Ardean Jr. and Sandra. Marie was later happily married to Albert Huston for nineteen years until his death.

Marie worked as a house cleaner and in the restaurant business while raising her family. She cooked, served and managed at several places in Sidney, Lodgepole and Chappell, NE. She was a member of the Sidney United Methodist Church as well as the Red Hats in Sidney. She adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her little dog “Lady” was a cherished friend for many years. She loved to read and especially was interested in history. Marie loved the fellowship of her family and good friends and loved to eat out with them all. She was a delight to be with and had a great sense of humor.

Survivors include her daughter: Arlene Christensen of Newport, OR; step-daughter: Dorothy Schwartz of Chappell, NE; grandson: Richard Christensen of Newport; (6) great-grandchildren; (3) great-great-grandchildren; (4) special former granddaughters-in-law; former sister-in-law: and special friend: Beulah Asey of Chappell as well as many extended family members and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband: Albert, daughter: Sandra, infant son: Ardean Jr., grandchildren: Jeffrey, Misty and Thomas, her parents and (5) brothers and sisters.
