Guggenmos Memorial Scholarship awarded to Sidney's Sweetser

Jean Guggenmos was killed September 24, 1982 at the age of 13 on her way back to school by a hit and run driver. The scholarship was established by her family and friends in her memory to exemplify the character that Jean lived by “Let all things be done decently and in order” 1 Corinthians 14:40.

This is the 43rd scholarship to be given in Jean’s memory. Thirty-four have been given to graduates of Sidney High School. This year’s scholarship has been awarded to Mikala Sweetser.

Mikala has been active in band, pep band, science club, art club, National Honor Society, and Cross Country while attending Sidney High School. She is also an active member of the Evangelical Free Church and Evangelical Free Youth Group where she has participated in mission trips to Mexico and New Orleans. Mikala has been employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Sidney Regional Medical Center for the past two years.

The daughter of Gordon and Debbie Sweetser, Mikala will attend Chadron State College this fall where she will study Health Sciences.

Congratulations to Mikala and many thanks to the Guggenmos family for their support of so many students in their pursuit of higher education.
