It was an either-or weekend for the Rocky Mountain Fever Black squad, with one very important mark of consistency.
The team won all five games at the Colorado Club Basketball Association Double Pump tournament, their final tune up before the big showcase events later this summer. On their way to the title, they captured the opener by a whopping 51 points, barely edged a Denver team in the second, cruised to a 30 point margin in the third, won by a more modest 14 in the semi finals then emerged from a tight battle in the championship round.
Sidney’s Paxton Ehler opened with 19 points and 5 steals in the Fever’s 77-26 drubbing of Titans Black. He ended with a sharpshooting 17 point performance—including 5 from three-point range—to help the team to a 67-51 title win over The Force.
In between he turned to his fundamental support role, feeding assists to the Fever’s big center, Mike Daum of Kimball.
Daum scored in the double figures each time out, including a 28 point effort in the team’s 61-59 struggle over Denver’s BillupsElite squad. Ehler tallied 4 assists in that contest, adding a pair of steals on the defensive end.
Kimball’s Jake Reader put in a surprising performance in the Fever’s 74-44 pounding of Basketball Factory. The forward generally known for his inside muscle hit for 13 points and drained a three.
Ehler and the Fever roster take a break until late June so they can participate with their high school teams at summer camps. They return to action at the Adidas Invitational in Indianapolis July 10-14—a tournament featuring some of the nation’s best club teams, scouted by top NCAA Division I coaches. They head to Anaheim, Calif. the next week before wrapping up their schedule at the prestigious Las Vegas Classic.
