The Third Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit the Special Olympics of Nebraska will be on Saturday, May 18.
The run will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. at the area behind the Sidney McDonald’s. The run will take the usual route which is Old Post Road to 11th Avenue, then it will proceed to go west on Illinois Avenue and it will conclude at the Cheyenne County Fair Grounds.
This is open to runners with all abilities; it is not a race and children are welcome to participate as well as bicycle riders. The run is a slow-paced jog that is described as slightly faster than a brisk walk.
Lieutenant Keith Andrew would like to have as many people as possible participate in this event. “We hope to have a big group,” he said.
Participants are welcome to stop and rest as needed. A chase vehicle will be on hand to provide water and needed items.
The total route is approximately 4.3 miles and most of it is flat or downhill.
Registration cost is $10 and is open now. Entrants will receive a t-shirt included with the registration fee. Early registration is encouraged so that the t-shirt size needed will be available.
Short sleeved t-shirts are available for purchase at $12. Long sleeved t-shirts are available for $20.
All proceeds go to benefit the Special Olympics of Nebraska.
You may call Lieutenant Keith Andrew for more information at 308-254-7846 or stop by the Sidney Police Department to register.
