Fever hot in Denver tournament aided by Ehler's assists

The Rocky Mountain Fever swept through the Double Pump Spring Series field on their way to a tournament championship last weekend in Denver.

Only B&B Basketball Academy caused any trouble for the squad. On Saturday, the Fever slipped by with a 57-56 nail biter, aided by Sidney guard Paxton Ehler’s 13 points. Mike Daum from Kimball led the team in scoring with 14, while his Longhorns teammate Jake Reader shut down B&B’s inside game.

The teams met again in Sunday’s title game. This time, however, the Fever pulled away for a more comfortable 78-63 margin. Daum drained six three-pointers on his way to a 28 point night. Ehler tossed in 10 points and tallied 4 assists.

Other tournament contests proved easier for the squad. They opened with a 63-41 romp over Colorado Titans Black, powered by Daum’s 21 point, 8 rebound game and Ehler’s 16 point effort. They followed up by smacking Colorado Factory White 81-53 behind Daum’s double-double, Ehler’s 18 points--with 3 assists--and Reader’s 11.

Ehler notched 5 assists and 13 points in the semi-finals, a 78-47 shellacking of Next Level. Daum again registered a double-double while Reader fell just shy, hitting for 10 points and 9 rebounds.

The event was a tune up for the Great Northern Classic, scheduled for May 18-19 in Denver. After a June break, the Fever will face off against the nation’s best at the Adidas Invitational in Indianapolis, the Best of Summer tournament in Anaheim and the Las Vegas Classic.
