Sixth-grade track meet

The annual sixth-grade track meet will be held at the Sidney High School track on May 7.

Additionally, Sidney fourth, fifth and sixth graders will be taking their Presidential Fitness Runs in the days following the meet. Fourth graders will do their fitness run on Thurs., May 9, between 1 and 2 p.m.

 Fifth and sixth graders will run the follwoing day. Sixth graders will start at 9 a.m. while fifth graders will follow immediately thereafter. The fitness runs will also take place at the high school track.

Softball Tryouts

The 18-and-Under Ogallala Fast Pitch Softball team is holding tryouts for the 2013 season. The tryouts are scheduled at the Western Diamonds Sports Complex in Ogallala at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 5.

Postponements

The Sidney golf meet scheduled for today at Gering has been postponed until tomorrow. The Kimball Invitational golf meet, also scheduled for today, has been postponed until May 10, at 9 a.m. 

Youth baseball camp

Sign up for a youth baseball camp at the Cheyenne County Comunity Center is open until May 3. The camp is scheduled for this Saturday, May 4, at Legion Field. All youth’s aged seven-and-up are welcome.

 The camp will be divided into age groups with 7-10 year-year-olds, attending from 1-3 p.m. Ages 11-and-up will attend from 3-5 p.m.

“We’ll break them down into smaller groups and really work on the fundamentals,” said Sports Director Kasey Kantor. “We have about six coaches who really know the game.”

Additionally, a number of the older Legion players will help out with the camp. The kids will rotate in groups that will focus on infield play, outfield, pitching, hitting, baserunning and other disciplines.

 Cost for the camp is $25 and comes with tee shirt.
