Reflexions owner reflects on anniversary

Cassie Melton was told by family and friends growing up that her calling in life would fall somewhere in the cosmetology field. At first she didn’t agree with them, but today she is the owner and operator of her own beautification business, Reflexions.

“When I was young I didn’t listen to them,” said Melton.

“I went to electronic school and then it was when I got done with that that I decided that beauty school was for me, not electronics,” she laughed.

Melton attended beauty school when she was 21 and then started her own business from scratch and opened Reflexions at age 24.

She just celebrated the two-year anniversary of starting her business this March 28.

“I started it from complete scratch; built it and remodeled it,” she said.

Melton has grown up in Sidney her whole life and said that she decided to build her business in Sidney and stay in town because her boyfriend, who not long ago moved from Colorado to the town, loves it here.

“We aren’t going anywhere,” said Melton.

The business owner and operator said that she, along with the help of her two additional stylists, provide acrylic nails, makeup, hair, pedicures, waxing and tanning to customers.

“We are a completely 100 percent full service,” she said.

Melton said that one thing a lot of community members are unaware of is she has two pedicure chairs at her establishment so people can come in pairs and friends can go in together.

She has tanning beds open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for customers and has regular business hours Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Weekend hours are available by appointment only.

“I like interacting with people and I like meeting new people, so it’s definitely the career for me,” said Melton. “Just talking with people and making them feel good makes me feel good, and I’ve made a lot of new friends because of it too.”

Melton said that she is happy to have located her business in a small town.

“I like a small town because you know people personally,” she said. “You know who they are, you get to meet new people, and I think with a small town you can become better friends with them then just them being a client.

“You don’t want them to just be a client – you want them to be your friend. In the city I think that would be a lot harder to do.”

When asked why she chose the name Reflexions for her business, she said she wanted a name that was simple but that people would remember.

“Also we want to reflect your personality. We don’t want to change you, we want to reflect you,” said the owner.

Melton makes sure to always stay on the cutting-edge of her industry and implements new ideas to keep her customers fully-serviced and happy.

“The tanning system is the hottest thing right now,” said Melton.

She purchased a tanning system that she implemented two months ago that is 24 hours a day because it runs by a touch screen that takes a customer’s fingerprint.

“They can come and go and it’s completely convenient for them,” she said. “All they have to do is come in during regular business hours, get fingerprinted, and they are good to go. They don’t have to come back ever again in business hours.

“It’s all done on a touch screen with security and surveillance. Some of the customers get a little weary because it is open 24 hours a day, but I reassure them that a notice comes on my phone and iPad so I’m always watching - just because I’m not here does not mean I’m not watching.”

Melton said that she has some customers coming in at 2 a.m. or 3 a.m. to tan and that the fingerprint match system ensures that no one can use another customer’s tanning package.

“Some local nurses are the reason I did it,” she said. “It seemed like one week they all bombarded me and they said ‘I wish I could tan but we go to work at 4 o’clock in the morning and don’t get off until 7 o’clock at night’ - it was an eye-opener.

“I thought, ‘You know, they are some of the most important people here in town and they need to be able to relax too.’”

But Melton is not stopping at new tanning bed technology, she is also in the process of getting a collagen bed.

Collagen beds have been nicknamed “anti-aging therapy beds,” and use a red light therapy to help reverse skin of it’s daily damage.

“What it does is it penetrates into the dermis of your skin and when you get fine wrinkles and your collagen is dying off it rejuvenates the collagen and brings it back to life,” she said.

“We’ll have two lay down beds and a stand up and a collagen. You’re suppose to do the collagen before you tan because the collagen is a red light therapy and the tanning bed is a UV. It’s also been said you can lose weight by using the collagen bed.”

Melton said that she loves working in the Sidney community, and that she welcomes anyone to come down and visit her “fun-loving and outgoing” crew.
