Public open house to discuss golf course improvement

City of Sidney officials are holding a public open house to discuss the upcoming golf course irrigation project at the Hillside Grill from 6 to 8 p.m. this Wednesday, according to City of Sidney City Manager Gary Person in a press release issued Monday.

City staff members, as well as representatives from Staples Golf, the design firm that has been awarded the project contract, will be there to answer any questions that citizens might have about the project.

“Citizens can attend any time from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and visit directly with the representatives,” the release stated.

According to city officials, Sidney voters authorized the funding of the irrigation project last November during the general election, and the design contract for the proposed $1.2 million irrigation improvement project was awarded to Staples Golf recently by the City of Sidney City Council.

The design firm has previously developed the 2012 Master Plan for Hillside Golf Course.

“The project design has begun immediately and will include implementation of a new irrigation system and reconstruction of the reservoir--with other minor improvements,” the document stated. “Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in mid-summer following the bidding process.

Play at the course will continue to work around the project’s construction in late summer and fall. It is hoped the project will be completed and operational when the course opens for the Spring 2014 season.
