The Cheyenne County Art Guild (CCAG) will hold its 42nd Spring Art Show on April 6 and 7 at the Cheyenne County Community Center.
The event is open to the public and admission is free. On Saturday, the event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday it is from noon through 4:00 p.m.
There will be a door prize of art work by Virg Shomacker. Attendees may vote for his or her favorite piece of art and the People’s Choice Award will go the item with the most votes. Raffle tickets will be sold for artwork from Paul Adkinson for $1 each or six for $5.
Prints and artwork from previous years will be available for purchase at reduced prices.
All entries for the art show must be original work that was created within the past two years. Categories are: Paintings in oil, acrylic, pastel/water color, mixed media and colored pencil; photography; sculpture; fiber art and miscellaneous.
Entries will be taken on April 4 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The artist’s reception will be held on Friday, April 5 from 5:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m.
Judging will be on the morning of April 5 by Pete Younger of Sterling, Colorado, who was an art instructor at Northeast Community College.
The artwork that is awarded the Best of Show and Purchase Awards in addition to 20 awards of excellence will be part of a statewide tour for one year with the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs (ANAC).
Thirty eight clubs across Nebraska make up the members of ANAC. Each June, the association holds a convention and art exhibit that features more than 425 pieces of art. The CCAG is allowed 16 entries.
The local artwork that is chosen for Best of Show, People’s Choice and 1st place will be allowed to enter the exhibit that will be held at the convention in Alliance this year.
For the past five years, at least one CCAG member’s artwork has been featured in the travelling show. In 2012, artwork by Cindy Egging and Sheila Phelps was featured.
