SHS Arts Center rocks with high energy concert

Editor’s note: This article contains personal observations of the writer.

A band from Seattle, Lybecker, rocked the house and entertained the concert goers throughout their high-energy set at the Sidney High Performing Arts Center. Bryan Jones warmed the audience up, Monday evening, with an acoustic set and a couple of stories before the band took the stage before.

The audience, composed of a wide age-range, seemed to thoroughly enjoy the evening that was capped by the members of Lybecker talking to fans, posing for pictures and giving autographs at their merchandise table.

I sat down with the band before the show to have a chat. These guys are very grateful to their fans for supporting them. The band is currently unsigned, but they do have a couple of CDs out, “Until We Feel Alive,” and “Life, Love and In-Between.” They have been touring non-stop since May 2010.

The members of Lybecker describe themselves as alternative rock, with a sound similar to Jimmy Eats World (Dan’s influence), Boys Like Girls (Chris’ influence) and Switchfoot (Dewey’s influence).

When asked where they see themselves in five years, the band collectively responded that they are honored to be able to work as musicians, and they want to continue to do so, wherever it takes them; whether it’s on a small or a large level, they love what they do and they just want to continue doing it.

Each member played in various bands while they were growing up in the Seattle area. Dewey and Dan became friends while they were in different bands playing shows together. They took breaks for college, pursued different avenues, but Dewey said that he feels that when the “passion for music is deep inside of you then it doesn’t ever really go away.”

Dan lived in France for a year, and while he was there he actually met Chris, and they realized that they both lived in the Seattle area. Dewey had begun to pursue music again before Dan moved back, and once they saw each other again, they decided to start a band. Dan told him about the drummer Chris whom he had met in France. They got together and Lybecker was born.

After this tour, the band is excited to return to Seattle to begin writing material for their next album. “They are ready for things that are on the horizon,” Dewey said.

Dan asks people to Check out their music on http://www.itunes.com/lybecker or their personally controlled Facebook account http://www.facebook.com/lybeckerband. Dan says that they interact with fans and will answer messages. Chris says that they are also on Twitter, https://twitter.com/lybeckermusic. Dewey says that they “really enjoy connecting with their fans and being able to talk to them personally, that is really the fun part of this doing this job for us; making new friends.”

Dewey went on to add that the fans are the ones who keep the band on the road; Lybecker is honored when people want to come and share their music and be a part of what they are doing.

Dan said that the band is looking forward to coming back to Sidney in the future, and offered thanks to everyone who came out.
