The children in Mrs. Roach’s class enjoyed a presentation about St. Patrick’s Day on March fifteenth at Central Elementary. Imelda Brosnan came to the United States from Ireland in 1987 and she has been doing this type of presentation to Roach’s class for a few years. Brosnan allowed the children to pass around Irish books, currency, dolls and a newspaper in the Irish Gaelic language. There was also an Irish musical instrument, called a “bodhrain,” that was passed around. Brosnan explained what St. Patrick’s Day is about and the shamrock’s significance to Ireland. Brosnan answered questions after the presentation from the interested children. The children in Roach’s class are eagerly anticipating a Skype conversation with Brosnan’s niece, Linda Hennessey, on March nineteenth. Hennessey is a fourth and fifth grade teacher at a school in County Carlow Ireland.
