The Sidney High School Speech Team placed third out of eight schools at the Class B-6 District Speech Contest held in Gering on March fifteenth. Gering won the championship and Ogallala was the runner-up. Other participating schools were: Chadron, Alliance, Valentine, Mitchell and McCook.
Sidney qualified four team members in three events to next week’s Class B State Speech Contest to be held at the University of Nebraska- Kearney on March 21. The top three finishers in each event will advance to state.
District champions for Sidney were the duet acting team of Lauren Gull and Darby Young. Third place finishers were Casey Baldwin in Extemporaneous Speaking and Riley Cheramie in Persuasive Speaking.
Sidney had five other medalists at the district competition. They were: Casey Baldwin - fourth in Serious Prose; Lauren Gull - fourth in Humorous Prose; Mitchel Renkert - fifth in Extemporaneous Speaking; Sam Cheramie and Andrew Phelps - fifth in Duet Acting and Anna Turner - sixth in Informative Public Speaking.
