A day in the Hat with a very famous Cat

Students at Sidney’s North Elementary enjoy Dr. Seuss Day this week.

Activities highlighted things that a reader might find in the books The Lorax and Bartholomew and the Oobleck .

Children enjoyed getting their hands gooey while making Oobleck green goo in the lunchroom and then after washing their hands, they went on to play a few Dr. Seuss games on computers in the lab. In other rooms, children made colorful masks and mustaches, while other children drew their versions of the truffula tuft trees.

Colorful, fluffy truffula tuft trees adorned doors throughout the school, along with drawn pictures of Dr. Seuss characters. And yes, it was possible to see the famous hat that belonged to the cat.

A sign read, “Tell me the number of fish in the jar. If you are the winner, you will take them home in your car.” Not real fish, but the snack kind. Students wrote their guesses on paper, and there was a four-way tie. These students guessed 150, and the actual number of fish in the jar was 163. After a tie-breaking round of rock, paper, scissors, Scott Schneider walked away with the jar of fish.
