City of Sidney officials may be issuing a Snow Emergency either later today or early Saturday morning because of recent weather forecasts, according to John Hehnke, City of Sidney Public Services Director, in a press release this morning.
A winter storm is forecasted for this weekend and city officials would like to alert residents and ask them to pay attention to local media sources for future alerts from the National Weather Service or the city.
“The City of Sidney is closely monitoring forecasts provided by the National Weather Service for this storm and is taking the necessary measures in order to be prepared for this storm,” said Hehnke.
Hehnke said that officials want to remind residents that once a Snow Emergency is declared all vehicles must be removed from the streets of the City of Sidney’s Emergency Snow Routes. The vehicles must stay off of the routes until the declaration ceases.
“Residents living on any of the city’s emergency snow routes may wish to take a proactive approach and remove their vehicles prior to the issuance of a Snow Emergency,” Hehnke said. “This will allow the police department to focus on other critical duties rather than removing vehicles from the emergency snow routes.”
Sidney residents can find a map of the emergency snow routes on the City of Sidney’s website at http://www.cityofsidney.com. The map can be found on the left side of the homepage.
If any citizen has questions or concerns they can contact John Hehnke at the city’s administrative offices at (308) 254-5300 or at [email protected].
