Sidney is set to host the annual Conclave event for the Nebraska State DeMolay Chapter this July.
The city will receive this honor due to the Fort Sidney Chapter’s very own member serving as this years State Master Councilor.
“The chapter is extremely proud that a member of the chapter, being Luke Castner, is currently serving as State Master Councilor for State DeMolay,” advisors to the chapter said.
According to Tanya Lewis, a member of the chapter’s advisory committee, the Conclave event is where chapters throughout the state of Nebraska gather to conduct business meetings and elect new state officers.
DeMolay is an international youth Masons’ organization and the Fort Sidney chapter has boys from age ranges of fifth grade to high school senior, said Lewis.
“DeMolay is an organization dedicated to preparing young men to lead successful, happy, and productive lives. Basing its approach on timeless principles and practical, hands-on experience, DeMolay opens doors for young men aged 12 to 21 by developing the civic awareness, personal responsibility and leadership skills so vitally needed in society today,” according to information provided by DeMolay International representatives.
There are currently more than 1,000 chapters worldwide, according to the reps, and a few famous members of the organization have included Walt Disney, John Wayne and Nebraska football coach Tom Osborne.
The Fort Sidney Chapter of DeMolay’s fall term officers were recently installed by chapter advisors Ralph Castner, Robert Goodwin, Dave Rosenbaum, Phillip Patten and Steve Mattoon, according to information provided by chapter advisors.
The six elected and appointed officers are all Juniors and will be serving for the year 2013. The officers include: Logan Lewis as Master Councilor, Lucas Rosenbaum as Senior Councilor, Nick Castner as Junior Councilor, Paxton Ehler as Treasurer, Corbin Heller as Senior Deacon and Brendan Holly as chapter Marshall.
Though weather conditions over the past couple months may have prevented the chapter from taking their annual trip to a Chadron State football game or participating in the Octoberfest parade, the chapter has kept involved in numerous other events, according to chapter advisors.
The chapter has been involved in many community service activities such as collecting and donating canned goods to the DOVES program (a program that provides services for victims of domestic and dating violence, as well as sexual assault and stalking), volunteering man-hours ringing bells for the Salvation Army and even participating in the Somebody’s Santa Adopt-a-Family program.
Through the adopt-a-family program the chapter was able to purchase Christmas gifts for an anonymous family to make their holiday season a little brighter.
The chapter also enjoyed its annual Christmas party which including fun team building activities such as a grab bag gift exchange, as well as board and card games, according to advisors to the group.
The DeMolay group however is just getting started and they have many upcoming events planned.
Upcoming activities for the chapter include athletic competitions such as the Spring Round Up in Kearney this April, sub sandwich sales for Super Bowl Sunday, assisting with the Child Identification Program (CHIPS) in April, and going on their bi-annual ski trip to Snowy Range.
