Quick action by Sidney man saves life of stranger

At about 2 a.m., Thurs., Jan. 24, Jeff Teague, an independent owner operator leased to Adams & Sons Trucking located in Sidney Nebraska, was passing through Bowman when he observed what he thought was a subject laying up in the yard.

Bowman Police and Ambulance Services were called to the scene of the 300 block of 1st Ave SW, US Highway #85, on a report of an OTR Truck Driver finding a 62 year-old-man, barely conscious and laying in a residential yard about 15 feet off the roadway.

With outside temperatures reading at the 30 below wind chill mark, Teague pulled over his 18 wheeler and went to investigate. He found a 62-year-old male who was barely conscious.

Teague called North Dakota’s 911 Emergency Center asking for emergency services to be dispatched to the scene.

Prior to the arrival of emergency services, Teague was able to pull the man to his feet and taking the barely conscious male to the warmth of a local 24-hour convenience store a half a block away.

Ambulance and police service personnel arrived and the male was then transported by ambulance to the Bowman County Hospital.

It was learned that the male was suffering from hypothermia with his core body temperature near a level that would have caused death.

Officals speaking with the rescued the male Thursday morning found him in good condition and according to the male he was only suffering from some frost bite.

Later when speaking with Jeff Teague, when he called the Bowman Police Department this morning to check on the condition of the male he, was very gracious with the accolades from the Bowman Police Department on his actions of saving this man’s life.

Teague reported that he makes the run routinely between Belle Fourche South Dakota through Bowman on his way to Williston ND and he was glad he was able to help.

Teague also said that he prides himself as being responsible and observant while working as a professional driver, “All I did was see a person in need and offered my help. I do not feel that I did anything special. I am just glad that I arrived in time to assist Mr. Kansy before it was too late.”

On behalf of the Community of Bowman and the Bowman Police Department officials said they would like to thank Jeff Teague for his keen observance and actions of stopping and rendering aid, which certainly prevented the death of a Bowman resident.
