Little or no effect

Editor,

The President’s new gun control proposals and his executive orders will have little or no effect on gun violence in this country and the statement that they are worth it even if they save a single life is almost ridiculous. Guns don’t kill people or children, criminals do. If all of the President’s proposals were in place it would have not changed what happened in the Connecticut elementary school, or in the recent theater shootings in Colorado for that matter.

Killings in Chicago and Washington D.C. are wholesale and yet they have some of the strictest gun control laws in the U.S. More persons have been killed in Chicago than have died in the war in Afghanistan. Let’s face it. This is another example of what Rom Emanuel, a former advisor to the President, said: Never let a crisis go to waste or words to that effect.

The old adage has never been more true: “When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.”

Sidney
