Elberne Elmer Luehrs, 93, beloved father, was called home by his Lord on Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Sidney Regional Medical Center, Extended Care Facility in Sidney.

Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with Rev. Thomas Hyde officiating. Burial with military services will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church Care & Share program, Sidney Regional Medical Center Hospice or the Cheyenne County 4-H Livestock Facility.

Friends may call Sunday, Jan. 20, from noon to 3 p.m. with family present at the Holechek Funeral Home.

Elberne was born on June 16, 1919, to Mabel (Westover) and Harry Luehrs at their ranch home near Johnstown, Neb. He attended a rural elementary school in Johnstown until the death of his father in 1930 when Elberne was 10. The family of six children then moved to Sidney where he completed his education, graduating from Sidney High School in 1938.

While in High School, Elberne was a ranch hand for the Olson family farm west of Sidney from 1937 to 1938. In 1938, he moved to Washington State, being employed by a cannery and dairy until his enlistment in the U.S. Army in 1942. His World War II service assignment was at Ft. Robinson, Nebraska in the Veterinary Detachment Unit.

On January 24, 1945 he was united in marriage to Florence Olson of Sidney and since that time has managed the cattle and farm operation of the Olson-Luehrs family farm west of Sidney. He was active in F.F.A. and 4-H in his younger years and in Methodist Men, Bowling League, and Rotary club in his elder years. Elberne will be remembered by his humor, quick wit, and his love of family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Roger Luehrs and wife Suzanne of Scottsbluff, and Bruce Luehrs and wife Jan of Ogallala; and one daughter, Susan Narjes and husband Gary of Sidney; grandchildren, Kristin and (Brandon) Hegge of Omaha, Jennifer and (Shawn) Harre of Scottsbluff, Dr. Nathan and (Sara) of Scottsbluff, Jeffrey and (Christina) of Omaha, Julie and (Tait) DeBaca of Wheat Ridge, Colo., Barbara Luehrs of Germany, Kyle and (Sarah) Narjes of Lakewood, Colo., Ryan and (Laura) Narjes of Sidney, and Tyson and (Regina) Narjes of Sidney; and great-grandchildren, Anna and Jake Hegge, Tyler Harre, Carter and Graham Luehrs, and Elizabeth and Ava Luehrs.

Elberne was preceded in death by his loving wife, Florence; his parents; and five siblings.
