The wrong cause

Editor,

We are feeling a particular sadness this Christmas season. Preparations for family gatherings, gift giving, school programs, and making of confections have become less important. Our sorrow over the shootings at Newtown, Conn., is heavy in our hearts. How can something so horrendous and evil happen? Why would anyone kill little innocent children?

Now the talk is about gun control. If guns were not available, this would not have happened. Really?? For days I felt sick for the parents and the little children who witnessed this horrific event. I asked God to be with them and comfort them. I asked God to take these beautiful children and their teachers to Himself. Then it come to me that these precious children where the blessed ones than just six or seven years ago were loved enough to be born. These were the children of mothers and fathers who chose life for them.

We are living in a time when humans can decide who lives and who dies. We are all appalled by this killing of small children. But, we don’t think anything of taking the life of an innocent child if it is inconvenient to us and society. This takes a spiritual, psychological, physical, and personal toll on all of our lives. Jan. 22 marks the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. In these 40 years, we are responsible for killing over 54 million babies in the U.S. alone. Precious babies that few of us shed tears for.

We need to do all we can to stop the senseless killing of our children. Our commitment is essential. If we aren’t convicted to pro-life from conception to natural death, aren’t we choosing who is to live? Aren’t we as guilty as the young man who took the lives of 20 children?

Our feelings are raw right now, but if we sit back and take up the wrong cause; we will be accountable when it is most important. We are sojourners on this earth; just as the little children.

Judy Henzie,

Sidney
