Local elementary schools, North and South, benefit from local fundraiser

Cabela’s awarded their Sidney Retail Camp Fire Award Dec. 13, presenting the North and South Elementary schools with a check to help purchase new playground equipment.

Cabela’s Retail Marketing Manager Connie Carrillo commented about the reasoning behind getting newer playground equipment, “We thought it was the best way to give to our kids. You know, with some interactive type stuff, outdoors.”

At first she said they tried to raise the money just through the store, but when they were unable to raise enough to purchase playground equipment, they put on a golf tournament with a silent auction.

“I reached out to a lot of the local businesses and they were very, very generous,” Carrillo said. “Wheatbelt gave us $1,500 to help, they almost matching what we made.”

According to Carrillo this is another community undertaking Cabela’s employees would like to continue throughout the years, because it benefits the youth of Sidney.

“The youth they are our vision, it may not always be just the youth. But right now they are our focus, because they are our future,” Carrillo said.
