Saturday evening was none too kind to the Creek Valley and Potter-Dix high school’s basketball programs, whose boys and girls were swept by Caliche (Colo.) and Paxton, respectively.
TIGERS TOO STRONG
FOR COYOTES
Paxton proved too tough a visitor for P-D, winning the girls contest, 58-27, and then handing the boys a 90-34 thumping.
Conner Wolff managed a team-high 16 points for the Potter-Dix girls’ squad, but Paxton rolled to an easy victory on the strength of 17 points from Brekkan Martinosky. Emma Holz added 13 points and Taylor Holzfaster 10 for Paxton, which led at 16-10 at the first stop, 31-14 at halftime and 46-22 heading into the final period.
P-D’s boys never got untracked in their loss to Paxton, which outscored the Coyotes (1-3) 27-10 in the first frame. The deficit mushroomed to 52-13 at intermission and kept growing in the second half.
Bryant Knigge scored 13 points to pace P-D.
Both P-D clubs will host Cheyenne County rival Leyton this evening, with the girls’ varsity game slated to begin at 5 p.m.

STORM DROPS TWO
IN COLORADO
ILIFF, Colo. — A rough start and a difficult finish were costly to the Creek Valley boys team in an 82-44 loss against the Buffaloes.
Following a slow start, the Storm (3-1), trailing 18-5 after a period, played on near-even terms with Caliche through the middle portion of the contest.
However, Caliche rolled up a 27-4 advantage in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
“It was a tough game,” Creek coach Roger Behrends said. “It was a 15 point game going into the fourth quarter, but we just ran out of gas. I am proud of the kids’ effort against a very good team.”
Sam Behrends scored 16 points for Creek, and Lane Godfrey added nine and Luke Cavalli eight.
Caliche’s Lady Buffs also rolled to an easy win against the Storm, winning 73-30.
Shaylin Johnson buried21 points and Sami Morgan 18 for Caliche, which led 36-13 at the half.
Summer Mueller scored nine points to lead all CV scorers.
