IMPERIAL – The road was quite kind to Sidney High School’s basketball teams Friday night.
The Lady Raiders put up another outstanding defensive effort in a 44-24 win at Chase County, while the Red Raiders boys got balanced scoring from six players in a 58-37 triumph against Chase.
ARTERBURN LEADS RAIDERS
Sam Arterburn scored 16 points for Erik Kohl’s Raiders (2-2), who led 19-14 after a period, 34-21 at halftime and 42-26 at the third stop.
“We adjusted our defense at halftime, and we forced them out of their offensive rhythm a bit,” Kohl said.
Arterburn was all over the place, according to Kohl.
“Sam knocked down some 3-pointers, and he got a bunch of layups off drives and nice passes from (Lane) Harvey,” Kohl noted. “Casey Mabey was strong on the boards for us, with 14 rebounds.”
Five SHS players scored between seven and eight points – Lucas Rosenbaum, Hunter Vowers and Mabey scored eight points, Harvey and Paxton Ehler seven.
“We moved the ball around and got some quality looks,” Kohl said. “And we outscored them 23-12 in the middle quarters, which said a lot for our defense.”

LADY RAIDERS’ DEFENSE SMOTHERS CHASE
Karissa Segelke, who on Thursday signed a letter of intent to attend Concordia University on a dual basketball-track and field scholarship, scored 12 points to lead SHS (3-1).
Sidney’s defense stifled Chase, which scored single digits in three of the four quarters.
Sidney led 14-3 after a quarter and 26-10 at halftime before Chase (0-3) climbed back into the game after three frames, 33-21.
“We allowed them to get some shots up in the third quarter,” Lady Raiders coach Tyler Shaw said, “but we outscored them 11-3 in the fourth quarter and got back on track.”
Sarah Mahr added seven points, Sarah Krueger and Cody Rowley six each and Madi Malzahn five.
“We were able to put up a lot of shots,” Shaw noted.
Both SHS teams will play at Alliance next Thursday before entertaining Perkins County on Friday.
