Peggy J. Kemp, 61, of Sidney, passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 2, 2012, at her home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney, with Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel today from 1 to 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in Peggy’s name to the First United Methodist Church.

Peggy Jean Kemp, the daughter of Robert Leland and Margaret Pauline (Purvis) Mason, was born on Aug. 5, 1951, at Burwell, Neb. She attended several rural Sandhills schools, beginning her high school education at Ainsworth, and graduated from Sidney High School with the class of 1969. She attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln with a degree in Dental Hygiene. Peggy was employed in Lincoln and Nebraska City. She gave birth to her only child, Sarah on Sept. 20, 1978. Peggy then met and married Edward Kemp on June 17, 1983 in Hawaii. She lived in the Lincoln area until the mid 1980s when they moved to the Baltimore, Md. area and came back to the Sidney area in 1988.

Peggy was often seen out walking her dog Kaiser while reading a good book. She volunteered at Memorial Health Center, meals on wheels and was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was involved in many church activities. Peggy loved gardening, traveling, her dog Kaiser and was never happier than spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her mother, Margaret Mason of Sidney; one daughter, Sarah Gorman and husband Joey of Sidney; two grandchildren, Zoey and Zane Gorman of Sidney; two brothers, Ron Mason of Genoa, Neb., and Robert Mason and wife Mariefrance of Beach Park, Ill .; one sister, Lisa Elwood and husband Mike of Kansas City, Mo .; one niece and two nephews; and her loving dog, Kaiser.

Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Robert.
