Cheyenne County CASA Night of Music

SIDNEY — Cheyenne County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is sponsoring a Night of Music Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Sidney High School Auditorium.

This event features many local performers, including Jim and Kathy Gerhold, Jaclyn Reeder, Casey Baldwin, Jordan Gann, Brittany Cleveland, Nate Morgan, Nan Mull, Shirley Oliverus accompanied by Nan Mull, and Sara Nelson accompanied by Heather Segelke.

“We are grateful for the performers and volunteers who are donating their time to this worthy cause,” Yvonne Donaldson, Cheyenne County CASA director said. “It is going to be an exciting evening.”

CASA community volunteers are well-trained who speak in court for the best interests of abused and neglected.

Children helped by CASA volunteers include those for whom home placement is being determined in the juvenile court. All of the children are victims of abuse and neglect.

CASA volunteers are appointed to a case by the judge, and the volunteer’s goal is to provide a carefully researched background of the child to help the court make a sound decision about the child’s future. Each home placement case is as unique as the child involved.

The CASA volunteer must determine if it is in a child’s best interests to stay with his or her parents or guardians, be placed in foster care, or be freed for permanent adoption. A CASA volunteer makes a recommendation on placement and follows through on the case until it is permanently resolved.

CASA volunteers remain assigned to a child for the life of the case and are often the only stable factor in what can be a frightening and difficult ordeal of trials and placements for a child in the court system.

Tickets for the Night of Music are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12, and no admission charge for children five and under. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Sam & Louie’s, Shelter Insurance, Cosmic Quarter, KSID Radio or The Insurance Store.

Those wishing to purchase advanced tickets with a credit or debit card may do so by calling Yvonne Donaldson at 308-249-4715.

Admission may also be purchased at the door. Donations will be received as well and a receipt for your taxes will be provided.
