Editor, Kudos to the person who recruits and hires the nursing staff at the Memorial Hospital. After two sessions at the hospital in the last two years, I am convinced that we have the best care possible here in Sidney. Everyone from the head nurses to the custodians was cheerful, courteous, helpful and professional. There may be a facility which has equal care, but none better. Thank you very much – nurses, aides, helpers and others. Sincerely, Tom Dorwart, Sidney...
Editor, Hello, I am the mother of the two boys that fell into the pond. I would like you to put in the article that my husband Eric and I are forever grateful to Tom and the rest of the workers for saving our babies. Words can never be enough to show how grateful we are. May God bless everyone of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Eric and Gina Christensen, Sidney...
Editor, We want to thank all volunteers who rang bells for the Salvation Army this last holiday season. There are too many to name individually. Also many thanks to the people who always dropped monies in the pots as they walked by and to the people who brought us monies and checks into the store. Without these donations we could not help those who need help in emergency situations. Special thanks to Cabela’s, Sonnys Super Foods and to Walmart who allowed us to ring at their establishments. To KSID Radio for their assistance in helping s...
Editor, As a traveler on I-80 during Thanksgiving week, I was gratified to have met some wonderful folks in Sidney who came to my rescue after my car broke down at a rest stop a few miles from town. To the young man who tried to help me at the rest stop and then drove to town and contacted the auto repair shop, I am most grateful that you helped a stranger. Your kindness is remembered. Darin VanNatter and his employee were able to fix my car and get me back on the road to my Iowa destination. Darin’s Auto Repair is a great asset to Sidney a...
Editor, Our downtown business community continues to see growth and expansion. We are so fortunate to have very few vacant store fronts within our downtown area. Congratulations to all who are involved in making this happen. I ask that we all make a New Year’s resolution to not park in front of our store fronts or other business store fronts. We need to keep these parking spots available for the customers shopping within our downtown. It takes all of us here to make this happen. What does it say to the customers when we use the store front p...
Editor, I thought you might be interested in a story about a gun dealer in Pine Top, Ariz., who placed a sign in his window which stated that if you voted for Obama your business is not welcome here. When interviewed, he said that “anyone who voted for Obama was not responsible enough to own a gun”. He was asked if this sign had not caused him to lose a lot of customers? His answers was “NO,” in fact he had orders on his counter at that moment to be shipped to Massachusets, New Jersey, Michigan, and Missouri. He had no qualms about his stateme...
Editor, We are feeling a particular sadness this Christmas season. Preparations for family gatherings, gift giving, school programs, and making of confections have become less important. Our sorrow over the shootings at Newtown, Conn., is heavy in our hearts. How can something so horrendous and evil happen? Why would anyone kill little innocent children? Now the talk is about gun control. If guns were not available, this would not have happened. Really?? For days I felt sick for the parents and the little children who witnessed this horrific...
Editor, Article 1. Section 8: Describes what Congress can do. What this means is a large part of the blame for our present state of affairs can be attributed to Congress with the approval of the President and not the other way around. Congress creates legislation and the funding for it then send it to the President for his approval or veto so they are both responsible for any goodor bad outcome from that legislation. When we the people elect people to both local and federal offices we expect they will work to resolve problems affecting everyone...
Dear Newspaper Colleagues, I wanted to reach out the first moment I could to many of you, and journalists around the globe, who reached out to us at The Bee to send thoughts, prayers and asking how you can be of help to our community – especially those immediately impacted by the Dec. 14 massacre at Sandy Hook School. The outpouring of support has been, and continues to be overwhelming. But it has created opportunities for scams and legitimate organizations that are taking pass-through and/or processing expenses before delivering donations b...
