    Diane Nielsen was born and raised in Scottsbluff, Neb. before moving to Potter and then to Colorado for 18 years. She moved back to Nebraska, particularly Sidney, 41/2 years ago and has used her creative mind to write two books over the recent years, with her newest book, Dark Whispers, coming out just short of two weeks ago.   • Center fundraiser nets $76,000 at annual event

    Approximately $90,000 was raised at this year’s Cheyenne County Community Center Foundation, Inc. Annual Fundraiser held at Buffalo Point, March 23. According to Cheyenne County Community Center Director Michael Namuth 145 center members, staff and supporters came out to enjoy the evening and event.   • Skateboarder hits car, receives minor injuries

    Sidney authorities responded to an emergency call about a hit and run on Thursday on 16th Street near North Elementary. According to Sidney Police Department Interim Chief Joseph Aikens, the call first came in as a pedestrian hit and run, but the injured male was actually on a skateboard. Aikens said that a teenaged-male was riding his skateboard down the hill southbound on Sixteenth Street when he ran the stop sign and crashed into the side of a black car driven by a teenaged female.   • Arent expresses excitement, optimism for ACT scores

    Sidney High School (SHS) juniors took the ACT on testing day, March 19. Principal Chris Arent is excited about seeing the scores from this year’s test when the complete results are released by the end of summer. Arent said that the Sidney school district is consistently in the top 10 highest ACT scores, and the students have done well in the past so he anticipates the same with this year’s scores.     The Sidney High School (SHS) Alumni and Email List is “a work in progress,” according to Donna Wiedeburg, Webmaster for Sidney Public Schools. For the alumni list, Wiedeburg and others at SHS are working to get as many names as possible. Currently, SHS has lists of student’s that date back to 1939.     Execution of a search warrant for stolen coins led to the Tuesday arrest of two Sidney individuals on drug-related charges.     Dozens of people attended the benefit dinner for Derek Stafford on March 26 in the Sidney High School cafeteria. Derek was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 6 months.
