Cheyenne County Sheriff’s deputies requested an arrest warrant Tuesday for Charles Smith, following a series of phone calls to Potter-Dix High School in which Smith allegedly threatened to kill all “non-virgins” at the facility. The Dix resident was taken into custody by Sergeant Brandon Loy of the the Kimball County Sheriff’s Office. Recently Head Start was forced to cut back from full to half days. The program caters to three, four and five year olds from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Due to money being tight, director Patsy Yager does not always receive the supplies she requests. But individuals and circumstances sometimes come to the rescue. At the Cheyenne County Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, the body approved a Government Leasing Contract for Motorola MIP5000 Console System. The console is intended for use by the Cheyenne County Emergency Communications Center. The Communications Center board earlier took votes on purchasing or leasing the new system. The Nebraska State Patrol will join law enforcement agencies across the nation in a Thanksgiving holiday campaign designed to save lives by enforcing seat belt usage. Beginning Monday, Nov. 25, through Sunday, Dec. 1, troopers and communication specialists will put in extra hours as part of the “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign. Sidney Wrestling Club treasurer Amanda Sykora was arrested by Cheyenne County Sheriff’s deputies on Oct. 11 for allegedly forging a signature on checks totaling $4506.36 and the theft of club funds. Sykora reportedly admitted to using the club’s bank account to pay personal expenses and forging the name of Chris Raines, a member of the club’s board of directors, without his knowledge. The city is finally prepared to begin towing abandoned, unlicensed and inoperable vehicles. At Tuesday's meeting, the city council approved a year long contract with Affordable Towing for this purpose—although some council members were perturbed that the council was advised to accept the only bid submitted. The original bid included specifications that the tow company must provide an area to store the vehicles. On Tuesday evening the city council urged community development director Megan McGown to make sure that there are enough holiday events scheduled to take place at Hickory Street Square to ensure that closing off the block is worthwhile. The Cheyenne County School Board met Monday night and again discussed future plans for a new elementary school. Superintendent Jay Ehler elaborated the meetings held last month for the public to voice concerns and ask questions. Vorachit Luexayachack, a 40-year-old from Iowa, led Nebraska State patrol on a 40 mile chase through Cheyenne and Deuel counties last week ending in his arrest and the discovery of almost 60 pounds of marijuana.
