    Widespread power outages occurred across an area covered by the Wheat Belt Public Power District on Tuesday. The outages extended from the North Platte River south to the Colorado state line between 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. This included the areas of Lodgepole and Chappell. The combination of damage to an insulator, which is the glass equipment that holds the line, believed to be hit by a shotgun paired with wet, icy weather caused the line to fail, according to a press statement from Wheat Belt.     The Onken's spent one Sunday afternoon putting up decorations throughout their yard. Amanda spent an entire day drilling holes in some pumpkins, filling them with Christmas lights and making them into topiaries. Unfortunately, the inconsistent weather caused the topiaries to shrivel.   • Cabela's reports revenue of $850 million in third quarter

    Although direct sales and firearms sales were somewhat disappointing, Cabela’s still saw revenue increases in the third quarter of this year. Cabela’s boasted a total revenue increase of almost 15 percent to around $850 million during 2013’s third quarter. Retail store revenue increased about 20 percent to around $550 million.     Dozens of costumed characters descended on the fairgrounds for the annual Hay Days gathering. The event, hosted by Cook Kids Club/No Limits and Kids Plus, featured prizes, a bouncy house and a visit from McGruff, the crime dog.     For some area hunters passing on the tradition and giving back to veterans are just as important as bagging a bird. The Sidney Raiders football players each donated $10 in order to wear pink socks and sweatbands in one of their games this month.     The Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts collected bags of nonperishable food last week as part of the "Scouting for Food" program. Scouts had distributed bags to homes in town earlier in the week. On Saturday they collected 50 filled bags and donated them to the Sidney Salvation Army Food Pantry.     Some damaged city streets will soon received a little face lift. The city received bids for the 2013-2014 crack sealing contract last week. The city budgeted $75,000 for the process this year. Sidney received bid from four companies for the project this year, which is more than the city generally received in the past. Bid prices ranged from 34 cents per foot to 96 cents per foot.     After the loss of an expensive piece of equipment at the landfill this summer, the city has made an agreement with a local businessman, which it believes will be beneficial to both entities.
