Nov. 5: A Los Angeles, Calif., man escaped injury when the van he was driving went off the road on Cheyenne County 58 west of County Road 93 at 8:40 a.m. Jose Hernandez, 38, was driving a 1998 Ford E350 van east on CR 58 when the van went off of the road and into the south ditch. According to the accident report, Hernandez then took corrective action, causing the van to fishtail. The van spun around, facing south and exiting the roadway into the south ditch. LINCOLN--Nebraska became the 34th state Tuesday to expand access to Medicaid, the federal-state health insurance program for low-income people. With just over 53 percent of the votes cast, Initiative 427 passed. It amends state law with the goal of bringing Medicaid coverage to an estimated 90,000 Nebraskans — ages 19 to 64 and under the federal poverty line — and creating jobs in the health care industry. Sidney Regional Medical Center and other Panhandle hospitals got a boost in providing advanced services with a telemedicine grant from USDA Rural Development. The $265,159 grant was announced last week, with the award going to the Rural Nebraska Healthcare Network, of which SRMC is a part.
