Faced with the possibility of cutting more than three teachers and several classes to become more efficient, the board chose to drop one-half of a special education position for next year. That means one of Leyton’s two special education teachers next year will be half time. As for the remainder of needed cuts, those will be accomplished through attrition, s...

Across Nebraska, runoff rates have generally dropped by a little more than a tenth of an inch per decade between 1979 and 2015, said Joe Szilagyi, a research hydrologist with the Conservation and Survey Division in the School of Natural Resources. OMAHA (AP) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture says small and midsize farms across Nebraska have lost much of their land and revenue to bigger operations over the past two decades. As a result, the number of smaller farms in the state has decreased while the number of larger farms has risen. Farms with more than $500,000 in annual sales more than tripled between 1997 and 2012. But farms with revenue between $100,000 and $499,999 d...

With a high temperature of 30 degrees in Sidney Wednesday, it seemed almost balmy after a week which began with a huge temperature swing. The wild week began with unseasonably warm weather Sunday, which saw a few residents out in shirt sleeves enjoying a 67-degree afternoon. That changed relatively quickly, however, as National Weather Service records show that just 24 hours later the temperature had dropped to nine degrees. By midnight Monday, light snow was falling through -1 degree air. By the time the snow ended, Sidney had received about...
