Union Pacific Railroad officials are investigating the cause of a train derailment near Sidney Saturday. The westbound train derailed 22 cars near Sidney Christmas Eve between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., according to UP Media Relations Director Kristin South. The Cheyenne County Commissioners Monday approved a 3 percent pay increase for elected officials, all except themselves. The decision was made following an executive session of about 20 minutes. The increase is for the 2019-2020 period. In addition to the 3 percent increase, elected officials will receive the same benefits as employees. A Sidney woman escaped injury when the vehicle she was driving Dec. 15 collided with a deer on Highway 30. SCOTTSBLUFF (AP) — A western Nebraska zoo is getting ready to display two orphaned bear cubs from Wyoming. The Scottsbluff Star-Herald reports that the cubs arrived at the Riverside Discovery Center a few months ago, and staff members have been working to reinforce an existing closure for them.
