Aspen Gurr of Sidney, a recent graduate of Sidney High School, has been selected to join the latest cohort of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. LODGEPOLE-- The 99th Annual Old Settler's Days celebrations have come and gone, and the weekend weather held out and made the events fun for all. There was no rain that disrupted any events, although the sun generated a lot of heat during the days. SIDNEY - Shortly after 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, August 13, the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) was alerted to a motor vehicle accident with injury, approximately three miles north of Sidney, on Road 111. Saturday afternoon featured absolutely perfect weather for the annual Guns & Hoses Charity Softball game over at the softball fields next to Legion Park. A big crowd came out to root on their favorite team, and the players and families had a great time with the event. Friday, August 11 was a gorgeous evening, giving Sidney's annual Night of Hope Walk for Cancer absolutely perfect summer weather for the event, and a big crowd turned out for the festivities. Night of Hope raises awareness and money for those fighting cancer and cancer survivors. This year's event raised nearly $50,000. 17 teams made the walk this year, with Team Fox being the top team. Sidney Public Library was the recipient of Hometown Liquor's "Round-Up" Program for the month of July. A whopping 2,794 contributions were made towards the Sidney Public Library's Children's Reading Programs, for a total of $1,359.48. As promised, Hometown Liquor matched the first $500, making it $1,859.48 which was of course, rounded up, to bring the grand total to an even $1,860.
