SIDNEY- On Saturday, November 11th, the Veteran's Day Annual Bean Feed was held at the Elks Lodge in Sidney. The event was sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 610, American Legion Post 17, and Disabled American Veterans chapter 40. The bean feed was free and open to the public and a variety of bean soups, corn bread, macaroni and cheese, and desserts were served. The Village of Dalton was recently awarded a $500 Lean on LARM Safety Grant towards the purchase of channelizer safety cones. Lindsey Syverson, Dalton Village Clerk, applied for the grant. The League Association of Risk Management (LARM) is a risk management provider for government entities in Nebraska and provides grants for items that promote safety in member communities.... LINCOLN - Cheyenne County has received another membership dividend, this time in the amount of $11,778, from the Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association II (NIRMA II), the county's workers compensation coverage and risk management services provider. Pheasants Forever High Plains Chapter #278 will be holding its Annual Youth Hunt on Saturday, October 21, 2023, meeting at the Sidney Shooting Park at 8am. The event is open for hunters ages 12-15 who have successfully completed the required hunter safety course as of October 20, 2023. All participants will have the opportunity to harvest a pheasant. SIDNEY--Sidney residents have noticed construction work at both Git-N-Split locations in town. The two facilities have been repairing underground fuel tanks that are used to store the gasoline we all buy to operate our cars and other vehicles. Haupt Landscaping has been handling the projects, and the repairs should be finished over the next week to ten days. SIDNEY- On Sunday, October 15, 2023, Friends of the Public Library held a Jigsaw Puzzle Tournament at the Cheyenne County Community Center in Sidney. There were a total of 30 participants, divided into 15 teams of two who competed to solve identical 500-piece jigsaw puzzles. SIDNEY--Three arrests on drug charges were made Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023 on the 800 block of Linden Street in Sidney. In conjunction with WING (Western Nebraska Intelligence and Narcotics Group), Sheriff and Sidney Police officers acted upon the information with a warrant at 803 Linden Avenue in Sidney. They arrested three individuals, Ray Garrett Jr., Dallas Dickey and Jessey Lohman on charges of possession of controlled substances. A favorite event of Sidney's annual Oktoberfest is the "Running of the Wieners", but perhaps no one looks forward to it more than Junior. Junior is a eight-year-old Dachshund who has traveled to Sidney from Crook, Colorado to defy the odds and participate in the annual event for the past seven years, albeit using a customized apparatus on wheels instead of his hind legs. NDOC - Road work on the I-80 Sidney eastbound rest area, near reference post 51, began September 25, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Kingery Construction of Lincoln is the contractor for this project. Work includes the construction of a new rest area building. No traffic will be permitted in the rest area.
