    BALTIMORE, Md. – Mitchell Porter of Sidney was named to the Dean's list for academic excellence for the fall 2018 semester at Johns Hopkins University. To be selected for this honor, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale in a program of at least 14 credits with at least 12 graded credits.     In October 2018, Dianne Bates was diagnosed with throat cancer, Stage 4 Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma. The diagnosis came after four to five months of doctor visits. After each visit, Bates and her family left with her symptoms getting worse. Her first surgery came just 12 hours after her diagnosis. Procedures included a tracheotomy and a feeding tube.
