The late 1970s was a time of 8-track radios, CB radios, 55 mph interstate speed limits and the Dodge Li'l Red Express. Owning one has been a passion of John Phillips since then. He first got a close-up look at one when he and a friend stopped at a Dodge dealer in Grand Junction, Colo., in the summer of 1979. They didn't have the fee to test drive it, much less the purchase price, but convinced the salesman to let them test drive it. That was then. Life moved on. He got married and became the...
Thursday evening the traffic through Gurley surpassed normal in both the automotive and pedestrian variety as the village rolled out the red carpet for people to see what it has to offer, and where it started. My cowboy had some horses consigned at a sale in Laramie recently. We always arrive the day beforehand to get stalls set up, horses put away, chores done and marketing material out. Driving long distances is always an adventure anymore with 4 cowpokes in the vehicle. My cowboy took one of the cowpokes and the 8 horses in one rig and I took three cowpokes in my vehicle. Although the littlest poke is by far the easiest he still has some needs that require mom’s attention including his meal planning. He naps well, but the drive while the t...

On a gentle rise north of Sidney sits a grain elevator, several homes and a few businesses. The view is a little deceiving because of the landscape in the area. Also deceiving is the level of activity the village of Gurley had in its early years compared to the quiet hometown nature of the community in its present day. It overlooks history from all directions. There is the remnants of a former church, former service shops that are not memories too stubborn to fall in, and public buildings that...

That is, until she was nominated to take part in the Envision National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Pathways to STEM. STEM - science, technology, engineering and math - is overall within her interests....
