In 2016, a group of people met to establish the Community Shepherds of Dalton and Gurley. They were offered the Presbyterian Church in Dalton as their home. The Sidney Elk's Lodge 1894 did the community cleanup as a fundraiser sponsored by ACE Energy. The annual tree give-away changed locations this year to accommodate for the social distancing directives in place. The annual event took place at Legion Park near the Forestry building. The teacher that I profiled this week is Chandra Lewis. Lewis is a kindergarten teacher at Central Elementary school. This is her fourth year teaching in the Sidney Public school district. She obtained her teaching degree from Hastings College in 2009 and then earned her masters from Morningside College in 2016. Bulk hand sanitizer was donated to the Salvation Army in Sidney Monday morning.
