Residents of Cheyenne County communities are invited to attend a Severe Weather Spotter Training co-sponsored by Cheyenne County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service (NWS). While Cheyenne County needed the weekend to dig out of snow, the eastern portion of the state is trying to hold back the water. The Nebraska State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) was opened Wednesday, March 13, to address the record-setting flooding for much of the state. As of 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 52 counties and two tribes had issued emergency declarations. In October 2018, Dianne Bates was diagnosed with throat cancer, Stage 4 Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma. The diagnosis came after four to five months of doctor visits. After each visit, Bates and her family left with her symptoms getting worse. Her first surgery came just 12 hours after her diagnosis. Procedures included a tracheotomy and a feeding tube.
