Re-zoning was for a portion of the area containing almost three acres located on the east side of the road approximately 300 feet south of Highway 30. This area is where Source Gas wishes to relocate its facility. City manager Gary Person...

I’ve joined the “social media” and now have a facebook page. After some encouragement from members of a younger generation who find social networking to be an integral part of their lives, I have taken my first step into this rather fascinating means of communication. I do see where this type of interaction may prove to be a very good means of communicating with producers and educators on the benefits of no till crop production. I’m also a little nervous about having a page that is open to anyone who has access to a smart phone or computer. Any...

After the first period of the final match at 160 lbs., Ryan Nieto looked up at the scoreboard at Cabela's Athletic Facility and knew he was in trouble. With two periods to go the junior wrestler was already trailing 7-1. But there was no panic in Nieto. He soon made the score a moot point as the championship match never went the full three periods. With a furious rally, Nieto turned the tables on Bridgeport's Lawrence Schneider with a pin to take first place in his class to help Sidney to a...
There were several moments on Saturday when Leyton threatened to snatch fortune away from the Bobcats. That the Warriors ended up on the losing end of a lopsided 58-39 score was difficult to explain, except with the broadest strokes. “They outplayed us—both ends,” said Dylan Brenner. Until midway through the third quarter, however, the game appeared every bit the pitched donnybrook expected by all in the packed Dalton stands. Although Hemingford jumped on top 7-0 after the tip, Leyton stormed right back into the fray. Brennen Cruise muscl...
The whistle was as much a part of Saturday’s game as the jump shot. In the first quarter alone, Leyton and Hemingford combined for 15 fouls, compared to 18 points. Unfortunately for the host Warriors, 14 of those precious points belonged to Hemingford, who handed Leyton a 50-31 loss. “It was their defense,” Dani McKay said, explaining the outcome. “They’re quick and they’re tough.” Quickness was only evident in briefs spurts, however. From the start, infractions set the pace. Less than half a minute from the tip, contact by the Bobcats’ Cali...
With only seconds to go in regulation and Creek Valley trailing by 3 points, Storm forward Jill Behrends took the ball in perfect position for a tying three-point shot. But two Sedgwick County defenders immediately descended on her. She quickly dished the ball. Through the yelling and waving of four frantic arms, Behrends somehow heard the call of teammate Summer Mueller and threaded a pass her way. Mueller tossed it up instantly. As Mueller's shot swished through the net to the sound of a loud...
Creek Valley faced a tough invader from Julesburg, Colo. and came out on the short end of a 65-37 final Friday night in Chappell. The Storm bounced back, however, the following night at Banner County to win a double overtime thriller 72-71. With the weekend split, Creek Valley takes a 2-4 mark into the Christmas break, which includes a 1-1 record in district play. Sedgwick County's record advanced to 4-2 and Banner County slipped to 0-5. While the Storm's leading scorer, Lane Godfrey, struggled...
