    The December 5 meeting of the County Commissioners started with the approval of a change to conditional use permits for materials such as asphalt and concrete and other minerals. Resolution 22-27 amends Code 5.02 to include commission approval on permits. The vote was unanimous among the commissioners, and will speed the approval process for county road maintenance and repairs.   • Remembrance of Cheyenne County's First WWII Casualty

    I received a phone call on Monday from Jacquin Coxon, a former Sidney resident with a very deep connection to the community. The 93 year-old Ms. Coxon was calling from a senior residence in Loveland, Colo., to talk about her step-brother Myron Eugene Goodwin. Goodwin was the first Cheyenne County casualty of World War II. He was killed in action on December 7, 1941 aboard the U.S.S.West Virginia when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. She told me how Myron would have been 102 years old now if... Full story

    A 42-year-old Illinois resident is dead following a single-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on Interstate 80. According to a press release from the Cheyenne County Attorney, multiple agencies—including the Nebraska State Patrol Hazardous Materials Team—were dispatched to the scene of the crash on the evening of December 3.     University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension facilitated Animals Inside and Out, an ag literacy program for youth in Cheyenne and Deuel Counties.
