The 4-H motto is "to make the best better," and for four local students, they've worked hard as a team to be one the best robotics teams in the Panhandle. The Sidney Mindblenders 4-H robotics teams advanced through the first 4-H Lego League Tournament that hosted 10 teams involving 85 students from the Panhandle at West Elementary last month. The Cheyenne County Board of Commissioners, who also serve as members on the county’s board of equalization, have approved a property tax exemption for the partially constructed new Sidney Regional Medical Center hospital. County Assessor Louella Pippitt explained the commissioners act as the board of equalization whenever an agenda item deals with a taxing issue. Organizations that meet specific criteria are able to apply for exemptions on real and personal property. “When they apply for those, they are strictly adhered to,” Pippitt said....
The Cheyenne County Board of Commissioners approved Tuesday a conditional use permit for Pit Acres LLC to open a pit gravel mine and asphalt and concrete batch plants northwest of Sidney near County Road 99. The motion was passed unanimously by commissioners Philip Sanders, Steven Olson and chairman Darrell Johnson, subject to 11 conditions drafted by the county Planning and Zoning Committee. Though the Potter-Dix High Lady Coyotes made a furious comeback attempt in the fourth quarter of their D1-12 semifinal game at the Auditorium in Ogallala Tuesday night, their season came to an abrupt end in a 39-36 setback to the Sutherland Lady Sailors.
