On day five of the State of Nebraska vs. Nancy Gipfert, the alleged victim’s mother testified that her two-month-old son was healthy and normal until the events of Sept. 13, 2011. Cheyenne County Sheriff’s deputies requested an arrest warrant Tuesday for Charles Smith, following a series of phone calls to Potter-Dix High School in which Smith allegedly threatened to kill all “non-virgins” at the facility. The Dix resident was taken into custody by Sergeant Brandon Loy of the the Kimball County Sheriff’s Office. Recently Head Start was forced to cut back from full to half days. The program caters to three, four and five year olds from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Due to money being tight, director Patsy Yager does not always receive the supplies she requests. But individuals and circumstances sometimes come to the rescue.
