Local Marines celebrated the 241 birthday of the Marines, with an annual Marine Ball in Sidney last weekend. More than 50 Marines and their significant others attended the ball this year. The Sidney Police Department received a medication disposal bin through a grant from CVS pharmacy which arrived last week. Twice a year, the police department holds a medication destruction event where citizens can bring in their expired or unused prescriptions to the department to be disposed of correctly. In February 1968, Keith A. Hansen was still in high school when he enlisted in the US Navy. On the deferred enlistment program, one could pass the physical, take all the tests, and sign on the line. He/she was allowed to finish high school before going to boot camp. Keith graduated in May of 1968. In June, he was on the way to San Diego, CA, and the Navy Recruit Training Center.
