Sidney residents Jennifer Cartwright and Walter Fischer were arrested last week and charged with possession of methamphetamine, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. In celebration of the anti-drug campaign Red Ribbon Week, West Elementary students pledged never to try drugs then launched a balloon into the wind. Attached to each balloon is a card and contact information, encouraging the person who finds it to send a message. The first year of the Sidney Police Department's Trunk or Treat event at Hickory Street Square in coordination with Trick or Treating at downtown businesses was a success, said Sidney police chief B.J. Though the Warriors (7-2) fell out of the hunt for a state championship with their 36-16 loss to the Hawks (7-2) of Hay Springs, Leyton's loyal followers who traveled 100 or more miles to bear witness had to have considered the drive well worth it. For the seniors of the Peetz Bulldogs football team they've already been to a place they've never been. Tomorrow at #3 Eads (8-1) the #6 Bulldogs hope to find themselves in another Land of Oz. The last time Peetz participated in a playoff game prior to last week at Arickaree, the Bulldogs seniors were in eighth grade.
