Leyton's Warrior Football team has gone to 4-and-0 in the 8-Man Football league, with the Hyannis Longhorns the latest team to fall to the Warrior's multifaceted offensive attack and stifling defense. The Warriors racked up 26 points in the first quarter while shutting out the Longhorns, putting the game out of reach for the home team early. And as we get closer to winter, the chances of snow and ice storms increase. “The Well” church in Sidney recently underwent training to be part of a response team that can be sent to where the need is g...

The program was led by Mark Bonkiewicz, executive director of NFFV. The objective of the meeting was to explain the unicameral government process. • Collectivism vs Individualism

    Dan Carlson, Columnist Prairie Ponderings|Sep 23, 2020

The ideological war we’re witnessing in America is as old as civilization. We’ve see the pattern played out over and over throughout history. Prosperous and powerful nations become corrupt and detached from principled moorings. The people become complacent and restless. The disaffected rebel and rise up. Totalitarianism follows in a crackdown usually welcomed by those demanding an end to the chaos. There’s a period of darkness and evil, followed by spiritual renewal and renaissance. Then the p...

  • A Fan's Perspective

Forrest Hershberger, View From The Handlebars|Sep 23, 2020

I ran across a book a few years ago called “Not A Fan.” The storyline is about getting up and being involved, not contently sitting in the bleachers. But to apply the words a little differently, we are fans. All but the chosen few know sports from the screen, the numbered seats in the stadium or arena, maybe even a box seat. We are not arriving hours before the start of the game, stretching and putting on the pads. We are not the ones running lines on the court to get the muscles nice and warm b...

Unfortunately, the business of life must go on – and the financial moves you make at this time can have a big impact on your life. So, as you attend to your affairs, consider the following suggestions: • Don’t make hasty decisions. The Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights consists of ten rights or protections which ought to be afforded every taxpayer in the State of Nebraska. The first right in the Taxpayer Bill of Rights states, “The citizens of Nebraska are entitled to a fair tax system, one which favors neither the poor nor the rich, neither rural dwellers nor urban dwellers, neith...

  • Make Our Election Sure

    Sep 23, 2020

It seems like, we are always counting down to something, aren’t we? It’s like we want something new to happen, something exciting, something different, a looking forward to a future day, when the old routine of things will change. We hear this countdown mentality in questions such as, “How many more years till I retire?” “How many more months till the baby is born?” “How many more shopping days to Christmas?” or “How many more minutes left in the football game?” It is like we are living in a countdown generation. Have you been listening to t...

  • Becoming the Best State for Veterans

    Pete Ricketts, Nebraska Governor|Sep 23, 2020

In Nebraska, our goal is to be the most welcoming state in the country for veterans and military families. Our servicemen and women make tremendous sacrifices to protect our freedoms. While we can never fully repay their service, we can shape state law and policy to better serve their needs. When they return to civilian life, veterans continue to give and serve to benefit their communities. We’ve seen that spirit of volunteerism on display once again in 2020. American Legions across the state ha...

Holdrege just needed three plays to score their first touchdown, a 39 yard run by senior Sam Holt, while the Red Raiders could not get a first down, going three-and-out on their first four possessions. Potter-Dix’s Coyote Football team has something to howl about as they move their season record to 3-and-0 for the first time in well over a decade with a 46-to-8 rout of the visiting Crawford Rams at Combs field on Friday. It was Homecoming Night, and a fired up crowd was geared up to see a depleted Rams roster try to give the Coyotes their first loss of the season, but it became clear early on that the Rams would not be able to stop the high-powered Potter-Dix offense. After Crawford started an...
