A Sidney man is in custody after the local drug task force seized 35 marijuana plants it said he was growing on a nearby abandoned farm. Floyd O. Kettle, 53, was charged last week with a count of manufacturing or cultivating of marijuana and two counts of delivery or distribution of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a park. The manufacturing charge is a Class III felony, while the delivery counts are Class II felonies. Kettle was due in court late Tuesday afternoon for a preliminary hearing. The Sidney High varsity girls’ golf team continued its hot streak down the home stretch of the season in Ogallala on Monday, placing placed second in a tournament at West Wind Golf Course. The Lady Raiders recorded a score of 387 – finishing just four strokes behind champion Scottsbluff – to stretch its streak of top-three finishes. For the first time, the Creek Valley varsity volleyball team is off to an 8-0 start. The Storm swept the opposition in their first seven matches and then defeated Sedgwick County, three sets to one, in their most recent match last Thursday.
