A man sentenced to life in prison for the 2012 shooting death of a Sidney woman is appealing his conviction to the Nebraska Supreme Court. Larry Martinez, 57, was was convicted following a jury trial and sentenced to life imprisonment consecutive to 10-50 years. A vehicle fire Tuesday in the Sidney Regional Medical Center (SRMC) parking lot still has an unknown cause. Sidney Police and Fire departments were dispatched to SRMC Tuesday at approximately 11:50 a.m. to respond to a 2001 Lincoln Navigator on fire. Sidney overcame a slow start to notch a 3-1 match win over Chase County in its first home volleyball match Tuesday. Chase County "hit 'em where they ain't," early in the match, taking a 24-13 lead before the Lady Raiders mounted a late rally.
