    Sidney’s City Council approved its 2016-17 budget Tuesday, Sept. 13, and approved tax levies for the general fund and bonded indebtedness. The city’s total budget is $56,352,970, of which $10,763,858 will be in general fund expenditures. On the revenue side, Sidney’s tax request will be $2,098,078. General fund operations will account for $1,343,772, while $9,500 is allocated for streets, $772,273 is for bonded indebtedness, and $13,533 will be paid out for collection of fees.     Students gathered in the Performing Arts Center early Wednesday morning for a chance to bid on their favorite football players jersey. Sidney High School (SHS) cheerleaders held their annual jersey auction before classes began Wednesday morning as part of Sidney's Homecoming week. Cheerleading Coach Abby Green said the proceeds from the auction go to the cheerleader's expenses.     Sidney’s City Council met Tuesday, Sept. 13, when Ed Sadler, city manager updated council on some of city department’s accomplishments this past fiscal year. Accomplishments reported include helping “Help Keep Sidney Beautiful” with tire disposal project at the landfill.     Sidney’s Historic Preservation Board is requesting bids for an Intensive Level Survey, after being awarded a 2016 Certified Local Government (CLG) Grant from the State Historical Society and Historic Preservation Office. Sidney Economic Development Director Tina Hochwender said this is the city’s 4th CLG Grant and second Intensive Level Survey.   • Search and rescue clinic held in Lodgepole

    A Search and Rescue clinic was hosted in Lodgepole on Sept. 10 and 11, by Jessie Evans of Evans Shepherds and Kaycee Enslow of First Republic German Shepherds.     Three Sidney Post #17 Legion Junior players were chosen for all conference honors for their play this summer. Bret Jaggers, Arick Doty and Zack Means were names among the top players in the conference, which includes teams from across the Panhandle. Batting from the number three spot, Jaggers was Sidney's offensive leader, finishing the year with a .385 average and an on-base percentage nearing .600.     Sidney came up short in play against Chadron in triangular play Tuesday, playing the Lady Cardinals tough through two sets before Chadron took the wind out of Sidney's sails. The Lady Raiders opened the match with a 25-23 win, then Chadron took a the second set 25-22.
