Sidney students performed well on Nebraska Standards Assessment tests taken last spring, according to Sheri Ehler, curriculum and assessment director and principal of West Elementary. Cabela’s Campfire Award Golf Tournament is coming up Sunday, Sept. 14. The tournament is raising money for Kids Plus, a nonprofit organization that helps at-risk youth and provides educational programs. Four-person teams will play in a scramble with a shotgun start at noon at Hillside Golf Course. Hole-in-one prizes will be available around the course, including vacation packages, online shopping sprees and a 2014 Chevy Malibu. Groups smaller than four will be merged to make four-person teams. The Kimball Kamakazee Klub is hosting a remote control airplane “Fun Fly” on Sunday, Sept. 28 at the Kimball County Airport R/C field. The field is three miles south and a half mile west of Kimball’s stoplight. Rick Kirby, event coordinator, said the event will feature planes and pilots from Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming. All R/C pilots are invited to participate and there are no entry fees or prizes. Check in is at 8 a.m., with planes in the sky from 10 a.m. until late afternoon.
