Sometimes a young person just needs a little encouragement, a little help redirecting focus. That process has a special value when the encouragement comes from peers. The Teen Outreach Program is designed for youth sixth grade through seniors to encourage each other and to have a positive impact on the community. “At TOP (Teen Outreach Program), we believe every youth has potential, regardless of circumstances,” said program facilitator Lorilei Stark. Stark said she is less a manager and mor...

When Molly and Matt Highby opened Highby Forest Products in May, they didn't go in with a lot of expectations. "We didn't know the first thing about the business,"says the Molly, the company's president. But what they did know in looking at the opportunity to purchase the former Anderson Forest Products, was that it appeared to have some promise. But it's a business that could just as easily have fallen by the wayside had the Highbys not had a wider vision for the community. That's because...
Pastor Brien Wahlen recently arrived in Sidney with his wife. His story is like many. It is not a straight line from boyhood to full-time ministry. In fact, as he tells it, ministry is kind of a late-in-life career. "This is kind of a late in life career choice," he said. He compared it to a Jonah comparison, of not initially going where God wanted him but in time accepting the plan. It could easily be said ministry is something that should have come naturally. He father and his grandfather...
"That's one," Sidney Coach Chris Koozer said following the Raiders' first game of the 2018-19 season, a 40-0 drubbing of Bridgeport. While it didn't start that way, Sidney manhandled the Bulldogs, using its size to overwhelm and wear down a team that showed splashes of quickness and talent with the pigskin. In fact, Bridgeport made the Raider crowd gasp early when quarterback Cole Faessler weaved his way through the line and broke away for a 48 yard romp before being chased down by the Raiders...

Sidney head volleyball coach Lu Howard commented on the upcoming contest, saying "Both of these teams (Ogallala and...
Potter-Dix's Coyote Football team opened their season at home on Friday, but the Hay Springs Hawks came to town and quickly dashed any hopes the Coyotes had for starting their season with a win. The Hawks struck quickly, scoring a touchdown on the second play from scrimmage. The Coyotes were able to get pressure on the extra point attempt, and blocked the kick to keep the score at 6-to-0 in favor of the visitors. That was one of the very few highlights as the Coyotes could not stop the speed and...
Leyton’s 2018 football season opened with a road game against Bayard County Friday night, and the Warriors found themselves unable to handle Bayard’s high scoring offense. The game quickly slipped away from Leyton, as the Tigers ran off 23 unanswered points in the first quarter, and continued to score ending the half with a 44-to-6 lead. Leyton was victimized by four turnovers, three via interception and one fumble, which stopped any chance of the Warriors generating momentum or keeping the Tig...
The Peetz Bulldogs football team started their season with a familiar drive down to Otis as the rivals opened the 2018 campaign on Friday night. The 2017 Colorado 6 Man Football State Champions started the contest strong, outscoring the home team 20-to-12 in the first quarter. But Otis was able to tighten their defense and opened up their offense, outscoring the visitors 52-to-23 through the remainder of the game. Peetz fell to the home team by a final score of 64-to-43, starting their season...
Creek Valley’s Storm football team took the long trip to Eustis-Farnam for its’ first game of the season, and ended up on the losing side of a 69-39 final score. The game started well for the Storm as they scored first and were able to build a 20-to-6 lead against the Knights, but they were unable to hold off the home team’s offensive power in the second quarter, finding themselves outscored 30-to-7 and facing a 36-to-27 deficit at halftime. Creek Valley’s chances for a victory were dashed...
